Mission and Vision
Mission
Our school mission statement ‘Reaching for the Stars’ is the heartbeat of our school and is the one thing that we ask of ourselves and the children every single day. Simply put it means ‘Try your best.’ As one pupil said ‘If you can look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and say I have tried my best then that is all you can do.’
’This is an outstanding school whose guiding principle of ‘Reach for the stars’ is very well represented in all aspects of its daily work and reflected in the aspirations of the pupils and staff.’
OFSTED
You always say that ‘Reaching for the stars’ is at the heart of Oakridge, well we wanted to share a little moment with you ...
My husband was struggling (arms full of stuff) and a little flustered whilst getting into our car with our son. He leaned out from the back seat to offer daddy some fantastic Oakridge grown advice "Don't give up daddy, reach for the stars and try and do your best"
"That's what reach for the stars means" Hearing this from my 4-year-old - Wonderful!
As I’m sure you’re aware, today is A Level results day and I would like to give everyone at Oakridge a massive thank you for encouraging me to be the best learner I can be and as a result helping me achieve what I have.
I have achieved four A* grades, in mathematics, further mathematics, physics, and computer science. This means that I have met my offer to study computer science at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, which is the most selective undergraduate course that Cambridge offers.
Thank you for providing the best possible start to my education - Oakridge is truly a wonderful school with fantastic teachers, and I am just as proud to have attended it as I am to go to Cambridge. You taught me to be the best that I can be and to always reach for the stars and as a result I am following my dream and reading at Cambridge come October. Thank you.
Vision
A vision statement it’s an overarching sense of what matters, it is our purpose. We like to use the term “North Star”—this idea of having a sense of direction, intention, and understanding that the contribution you’re making is going somewhere. It’s when you feel energised and inspired and alive. It is the reason you get up in the morning.
Why? We believe in making our children world class learners developing in them a confidence and thirst for knowledge enabling them to realise their talents and create their future.
How? We believe in giving them a ‘Disney Land’ curriculum with a fantastic range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities which engage enrich and excite them as learners.
‘The school has an ambitious vision and high expectations and as a result the standards of attainment and progress over the past ten years are consistently and significantly above the National and County. The school has a clearly defined and shared vision and mission statement which ensures all staff know and understand their roles and responsibilities and how their role will help the school achieve its goals.’
